The Gift of Jesus : Grade 9 Retreat
Dear Gr. 9 Atenean,
Hello and welcome to your online retreat.
This is a one-day self-paced, do-it-yourself prayer experience with the theme, “Love Dwells Among Us: The Gift of Jesus.“
Like your past recollections, it will be a special time of being with the Lord. There will be opportunities to learn new things, reflect on experiences, and pray over them. You will need your Bible and some writing materials, plus of course your computer or your printed materials. Other than that, you will just need to eat, rest, and exercise in between modules.
We trust that you will set aside your academic work in these two days to focus solely on these spiritual exercises. Although it may be a challenge, you are expected to stay away from social media (let’s abstain from FB, Twitter, Insta, Tiktok, etc) and other digital forms of entertainment. Let the people at home know that you are doing an online retreat and ask for some privacy and quiet, in as much as it is possible with your set up. Remember that silence is not only external; we need to be internally silent as well.
Unlike your past recollections and retreats, nobody will be around to check on you or to force you to read the material and do the activities. It will be entirely up to you to make the most out of this experience. You are being invited to be open to the material and generous in engaging it. Allow God’s Spirit to work in you and gift you with His joy and consolation. But for that to happen, you need to do your part. It will help to set up a sacred space in your house where you can be more disposed for prayer– a comfortable chair, a religious image, a candle. Moving away from the computer after you have read the material or done the activities is recommended. It will also help if do not pray in bed so as to avoid falling asleep.
Finally, we ask you to study the recommended schedule so you can pace yourself properly. Note that there are scheduled synchronous sessions wherein you will be meeting up with your classmates online for common activities. You will also be assigned to a deepening group with a campus minister.
That’s it for now! Have a blessed retreat. We will be praying for and with you.
