IGNATIUS IN ART DAY 3: “The Ribbon of Compassion”

Artwork by Ella Pasiona
Reflection by Mhika de la Rama

Crime, depression, unemployment, and the pandemic; these are just few of the problems that our country is facing. Living in this post-quarantine world is some a big challenge. We are placed in a time where a great number of families have to fight for survival. Let us then, come to think of others, let us ask ourselves — How could we help them? — Is it that hard for us to sincerely help others knowing that we felt the same pain and experience before?

In this light, let us learn to help wholeheartedly and fairly, let us allow ourselves to respond to the call of Fr. Pedro Arrupe in the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola. A call to help others with full compassion despite the hindrances and obstacles that abound. Let us call to mind the adage “Serve where there is greater need”, let us keep in mind that not everyone enjoys the same things that we enjoy; therefore, we should nevertheless give no matter how big or small it is.

Let us be ribbons of compassion, let us pull each other up, let us acquire the value of cura personalis and hold on to the hope that this Ignatian value spreads throughout our community. Let us hold on to the ribbons of hope, love, and joy.
